Job Summary

The Institute for Predictive Performance Methodologies and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at The University of Texas at Arlington invite applications for a tenured associate/full professor position with a focus on the new functional materials, with a tentative date of starting employment in January 2018. This position is part of the College of Engineering’s search for faculty members in thematic areas which are research thrusts of UTA’s Strategic Plan 2020: Bold Solutions | Global Impact: Health and the Human Condition, Sustainable Urban Communities, Global Environmental Impact, and Data-Driven Discovery. The key objective is to hire faculty members with outstanding qualifications who share the University’s core values of high standards of excellence in teaching, innovative and collaborative research, and service, combined with fostering an open and inclusive environment. Major emphasis will be on potential collaboration for research with faculty members from other departments across UTA and outside the University.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teach and develop undergraduate and graduate courses, in the area of functional materials, with possible focus areas in prediction of properties and performance of materials (from nano to macro scales) in the presence of mechanical, electrical, and thermal applied fields, with emphasis on new functional materials, non-equilibrium materials, catalytic materials and nanomanufacturing. Develop externally funded research programs that result in publications in leading scholarly journals; present research work in leading scholarly conferences; supervise graduate students; and serve on departmental, college, and university committees.

Required Qualifications

An earned Ph.D. degree in a relevant engineering field. The candidate should have a strong background in an emerging research area related to new functional materials and a strong established record of external funding. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and equity in education through their scholarship, teaching, and/or service. Candidates must also show a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
