Job Summary

The Assistant Dean serves as a key member of the leadership team for all research activities within the School of Social Work; including all functions of our research-focused Ph.D. Program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Manage the daily operations of the Office of Research and Faculty Affairs. Track, monitor, and prepare annual report on all research and scholarly activities within the SSW.
2. Develop and implement new and innovative programs to facilitate faculty and Ph.D. student research efforts.
3. Maintains the Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) pool and promotes student research opportunities across all academic levels.
4. Serve as an internal consultant for faculty research including being familiar with faculty research agendas, identifying appropriate sources of funding, and distributing calls for abstracts and notices of funding opportunities.
5. Serve as a liaison between faculty and various units across campus including IRB, Grants and Contracts, Grant Accounting, department accounting, and the Office of Research.
6. Work closely with principal investigators of internally and externally funded research projects to provide project management guidance, support, and ensure budgetary compliance
7. Cultivate and maintain relationships with interdisciplinary research collaborators, national research sponsors, federal agencies, UT system institutions, and other organizations.
8. Ensures that all School research-related activities are compliant with School and University level policies as well as federal and state policies and procedures related to research.
9. Assists with the oversight and management of the daily operations of the Ph.D. program.
10. Teaches a 1:1:1 course load as appropriate per experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in the social sciences and a minimum of three years of relevant experience at the university level is required. Experience developing strategic plans, establishing priorities and goals, and ensuring achievement of goals. Experience building a climate of success. Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making abilities. Superior verbal and written communication skills. Experience in effectively managing budgets and other resources. Demonstrated ability to utilize resources to ensure achievement of goals. Excellent ability to work effectively with individuals from all levels of the university and from outside organizations. Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. Strong organizational skills. Demonstrated capacity to promote and contribute to the School’s strategic research direction. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate

Preferred Qualifications

PhD in Social Work or other related discipline. Experience working in a large academic school or college. Experience working in a social work research environment.
