Job Summary

The Assistant Dean ensure that the Office of Field Education functions effectively to match undergraduate and graduate students with social service agencies that provide rich learning experiences wherein students apply social work theory, practice principals, and ethics with social work clients and communities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee the recruitment and development of appropriate field placement sites.
• Maintain relationships with agency leaders and Field Instructors through clear and frequent communication.
• Ensure that the matching process of students to agencies works smoothly and according to the guidelines of office policy and the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
• Review and mediate issues between field students and Field Instructors when Liaisons are unable to achieve resolution.
• Oversee training for Field Instructors and Field Liaisons.
• Oversee the process and procedures for application and assignment and timely completion of field.
• Chair and coordinate the faculty-driven curricula for field seminar classes, and methods for greater integration of the classroom curriculum and field education.
• Actively pursue field-related best and innovative practices to enrich the experience of students and to publish/present such findings as appropriate.
• Maintain a positive and constructive environment for field staff, SSW staff and faculty, and students.
• Teaches a 1:1:1 course load as appropriate per experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Social Work and a minimum of three years of relevant experience is required.
• Supervisor experience is required.
• Experience developing strategic plans, establishing priorities and goals, and ensuring achievement of goals.
• Experience building a climate of success.
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Superior verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to utilize resources to ensure achievement of goals.
• Excellent ability to work effectively with individuals from all levels of the university and from outside organizations.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Demonstrated capacity to promote and contribute to the School’s strategic student success initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Social Work or other related discipline.
• Experience working in a large academic school or college, or other related organization
