Job Summary

The Associate Dean serves as the senior administrator for all research activities within the School of Social Work; including all functions of our research-focused Ph.D. Program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

• Provides strategic vision and leadership in developing and refining the School’s research mission.
• Provides and facilitates mentorship of research-active faculty and Ph.D. students.
• Provides consultation to research-active faculty and Ph.D. students regarding preparation of research proposals and potential funding sources.
• Forms collaborative research groups including mechanisms to collaborate with cross-campus individuals and groups.
• Links Ph.D. student interest with faculty projects and funding.
• Expands research partnerships with community partners.
• Ensures that all School research-related activities are compliant with School and University level policies as well as federal and state policies and procedures related to research.
• Provides programmatic leadership and direct supervision of professional, technical, and support personnel who provide research-related support services.
• Provides oversight and management of the daily operations of the Ph.D. program; including all academic courses and research support for Ph.D. students.
• Provides collegial and inclusive supervision to a full-time professional team including an Assistant Dean, Social Science Research Associate and Administrative Assistant.
• Oversees a significant budget to meet the goals of the SSW in fostering the positive development of research-active faculty and Ph.D. students.

Required Qualifications

Minimum requirements for the positions are:
• Earned PhD in Social Work or related field
• Eligibility for a tenured appointment at the rank of associate or full professor
• Established program of research, with a progressive track record of external funding
• A record of successfully managing funded research projects
• A strong record of scholarly journal publications

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications for the position are:
• Established program of research with significant federal funding
• A record of academic program leadership
• A strong record of supporting and/or participating in interdisciplinary research work
• A strong record of working with colleagues and mentoring doctoral students and tenure earning faculty
